M&P with kawakawa oil
Customise your M&P soap!
This month we have make kawakawa oil M&P which has a lovely green tinge.
For every 1kg of clear M&P soap, use 50g kawakawa oil.
Melt together but don't pour until it is cool. The oil will sit on top of the soap if you pour too soon.
Olive oil, avocado oil, hemp oil would all give the same green tinge. |

Cocoa butter M&P
This month we added organic deodorised cocoa butter at up to 10% of the weight of the M&P. The M&P still remained hard and able to maintain a lather.
To 1kg of white M&P soap base, we added 100g cocoa butter.
Melt the two together, add any fragrance and stir to blend. Only pour when it is thickening to prevent the cocoa butter from separating.
Oats can be added, 30g per kilo of M&P, for an exfoliating effect.
The pic to the right shows bars with cocoa butter, one with oats added. |

Pracaxi oil
The pracaxi (pra-ka-shee) tree is found in the flooded areas of the northern Amazon rainforest.
Traditionally it was used for bacterial skin infections and to prevent stretchmarks in pregnant women as the oil stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. It can be used to regenerate and heal burns and after surgery.
It can assist in the treatment of acne as it has fungicide and bactericide properties.
It is a very moisturising oil and good for removing makeup.
In hair, the oil strengthens hair roots and so avoiding hair loss. It improves combing ability. |

All the combinations in a tube would be good for a lipstick.
If you are making a lipstick, please be aware that the waxes are yellow.
This makes colouring the lipstick with micas different from a lipstick made with white beeswax.
Use castor oil in lipsticks or a combination of castor and jojoba oils, but mainly castor.
