I wanted to harness the excellent antioxidant properties of acai berry oil in my everyday skin routine, but to be completely honest I wasn't a huge fan of its aroma, plus it's very green on its own so I wanted to dilute it. I chose squalane oil and fractionated coconut oil for their neutral scent and I wanted something fast absorbing (also for all their other qualities listed below). Then I wanted a scent to cut through the natural scent of the acai berry oil so I have chosen rose geranium, but you could use something else if you wished.
I've been using this serum for about three weeks now on one half of my face (which is how I usually test recipes, so I can see any differences side by side!) and I'm really impressed with the results. The side with the acai serum I swear is smoother and lines are less obvious than the side without. This is one I'm definitely going to be keeping in my skincare routine!
About the oils
Açaí berry oil - is incredibly rich in omega 3, 6 and omega 9 essential fatty acids, antioxidants and also contains vitamins E, B1, B2 and B6. It is said to help restore skin elasticity, brighten skin, even out hyper-pigmentation, skin blemishes, and aid in the regeneration of skin cells.
Squalane oil - is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) and suitable for all skin types, particularly good for dry, sensitive, oily or acne prone skin. It is an excellent moisturiser which leaves skin soft and hydrated, is said to help heal chapped, dry and irritated skin such as eczema and psoriasis, help regulate oil production and help protect skin from free radicals which cause premature signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Fractionated coconut oil - A gentle, low comedogenic, non-greasy, light weight, emollient and moisturiser to help replenish skin's surface and resist moisture loss.
Ingredients
Makes approx 20ml
6.33g | 33% acai berry oil
6.33g | 33% squalane - olive
6.33g | 33% fractionated coconut oil, certified organic
0.10g | 0.5% vitamin E
0.10g | 0.5% rose geranium essential oil - optional (or another essential oil of your choice)
Method
1. Weigh all your ingredients. A glass beaker is helpful, as are mini scales.
2. Stir to combine. A mini silicone spatula is handy, particularly to get every last bit of oil from the edges of the beaker/container you're using, but the thin end of a spoon will work just fine. Whatever you use make sure it is clean and dry.
3. Pour into your bottle/s. 20ml dropper bottles are recommended, available in amber or clear.
To use
Drip 2 -3 drops directly onto face and use your fingertips to massage into face and neck. Can be used morning or night.*
*If you have chosen a citrus oil for your scent then just use it at night as citrus oils are photosensitive so exposure to sunlight should be avoided.
