Our unrefined shea butter is natural, fair trade, and certified organic. It is a creamy-grey/green colour and has a light, though not unpleasant odour.

No chemicals are used to extract or preserve the shea butter. Traditional methods of processing ensure a very clean butter free from any additives or chemicals.

Unrefined shea butter comes from seeds of wild shea trees scattered throughout the fields and forests of the wooded savanna. The moisturising and healing properties of shea butter have recently been discovered by the western cosmetic industry, but shea butter has been a mainstay of African pharmacology for centuries.

This certified organic unrefined shea butter will not be considered wildcrafted due to its organic status. The shea nuts are picked in the wild (which is wildcrafted), however the growers have organic zoned areas in the wild for picking the organic nuts.

Unrefined shea butter contains an abundance of protective ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, proteins and a unique fatty acid profile, and is a superior active moisturiser, helping to restore the skin's natural elasticity. Shea butter enables your skin to absorb moisture from the air, and as a result, it becomes softer and stays moisturised for longer. Thanks to these properties, shea butter is an excellent ingredient for soaps, lotions and creams. Though perhaps it is most effective when applied to the skin in its pure state. Regular users of pure, unrefined shea butter generally notice softer, smoother, healthier skin.

To use raw, just squish it between your fingers and it will melt, then massage it into your skin.
