Purple Rose Powder Cleanser
For this recipe I have used white clay for its gentle cleansing and mild exfoliating properties, making it great for sensitive skin types. I've used purple clay for its oil control properties and let's be honest, it's gorgeous colour.
Make Your Own Purple Rose Face Powder Cleanser
I have included rose petals as they are said to have anti-bacterial properties, making them helpful in reducing acne breakouts and also because using actual roses in my skincare makes me feel like a queen.
Powdered skin cleansers are not only a great way to reduce water usage and plastic in your bathroom, they're also very gentle on sensitive skin, great for travelling and super cute!
Equipment
- You will need an electric coffee grinder, one that is for cosmetic purposes only, you don't want to be switching back and forth between coffee and cosmetics! You have get these relatively cheaply for most home electrical stores
- Mini scales
- Dish or bowl to weigh ingredients in - can be a kitchen bowl just make sure it is clean and sanitised.
- Dust mask
Ingredients
Makes 30g - Go Native NZ's
40% | 12g White Kaolyn Clay
29% | 8.7g purple clay (or a different clay such as Pink clay - Red clay
15% | 4.5g Sodium cocoyl isethionate
10% | 3g Rose petals
5.5% | 1.65g Organic Jojoba oil
0.5% | 0.15g Vitamin E, certified organic
Method
- Wear a dust mask for this, the SCI, while gentle on the face, is not something you want to be breathing in!
- Weigh all ingredients into a dish
- Stir to cover the liquid ingredients with powder
- Move the mixture to your coffee grinder
- Place baking paper between the grinder and the lid, this keeps the powder contained and you don't lose so much in the lid of the grinder
- Grinder for 20 seconds
- Tap the sides to get excess powder off the side and wait a minute for the dust to settle
- Check the mixture and if necessary grind again until rose petals are powdered and all ingredients combined
To use
- Pour about a teaspoon of powder into your hands and add a splash of water
- Mix together in your hands and supply to face in a circular motion
- Add a little more water if needed
- Rinse off and follow with your usual skincare routine
Substitutions
- SCI - This is your surfactant, the ingredient which does the cleaning and creates foaming. This is essential for the product to do its job and can't be substituted.
- Clays - Can be switched out for different types of clay. I recommend keeping the white clay as it helps give volume to the product and provides gentle cleansing action. I do not recommend using Bentonite clay as this clay absorbs metals so the metal of the grinder can lessen its efficacy.
- Rose petals - Can be switched for another herb/dried flower or taken out entirely and the percentage replaced with more clay.
- Jojoba oil - Can be replaced with another carrier oil.
- Vitamin E - Is optional. It is an antioxidant and helps give the formula a longer shelf life.
