Description: Clove is derived from a slender evergreen tree that grows up to 12m.

History: The word clove comes from the Latin word ‘clavus’, meaning nail, since the shaft and head of a clove resemble a nail. Cloves and nutmeg were among the most precious of items in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries and were worth more than their weight in gold.

Strength of aroma: medium to strong

Common uses: Clove leaf essential oil is also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Its warm, spicy scent is known to have a calming effect on the mind and body, making it a popular choice for diffusing in the home or adding to a warm bath.
