Sea buckthorn seed oil, certified organic

Organic, CO₂-extracted virgin sea buckthorn seed oil is derived from the small seeds of the Hippophae rhamnoides shrub. Unlike sea buckthorn fruit oil, which is deep orange and rich in carotenoids, sea buckthorn seed oil is lighter in colour and has a more balanced fatty acid profile. The CO₂ extraction method preserves its full range of nutrients while maintaining a stable and high-quality oil. Traditionally used in natural skincare, it has gained popularity in modern formulations for its mild, nourishing properties and its suitability for a wide range of skin types.

Sea buckthorn fruit oil vs. Sea buckthorn seed oil

Both sea buckthorn fruit oil and sea buckthorn seed oil are highly valued for their unique properties, but they differ in composition and usage.

  • Fruit oil has a deep orange colour due to its high carotenoid content and is often used in small amounts in skincare formulations to enhance nourishment and radiance.
  • Seed oil is lighter in colour and contains a well-balanced blend of essential fatty acids, making it a more versatile option for everyday skincare and haircare products.

Each oil offers distinct benefits, and the choice between them depends on the desired formulation and personal preference.

Skincare Uses

Lighter in colour and texture: Unlike sea buckthorn fruit oil, the seed oil does not have the same intense pigmentation, making it easier to incorporate into formulations without staining the skin or clothing.

Rich in essential fatty acids: This oil contains a high concentration of omega‑3 and omega‑6 fatty acids, which are often included in skincare products designed to support hydration and skin barrier function.

Gentle and versatile: Known for its mild nature, sea buckthorn seed oil is suitable for most skin types and is often used in facial oils, serums, and creams.

Haircare Uses

Scalp and hair conditioning: Sea buckthorn seed oil is sometimes used in hair and scalp treatments, where its lightweight texture makes it easy to apply without leaving a greasy residue.

Nutrient‑rich profile: It contains vitamins and antioxidants that may support hair health, making it a popular addition to leave‑in conditioners and nourishing treatments.

Additional Uses

Versatile for custom formulations: Due to its mild colour and balanced composition, sea buckthorn seed oil is widely used in DIY skincare and haircare products without the concerns of pigmentation found in the fruit oil.

Note: Individual responses may vary, and a patch test is recommended before use, especially for those with known allergies or skin sensitivities.
